MetLife Inc. appointed Tim Ring to the new role of chief sustainability officer.

Over the last year, Ring has been senior vice president and associate general counsel, and chief of operations for legal affairs. Before that, he was corporate secretary from 2013 to 2017.

Ring has government ties as well. According to his LinkedIn profile, Ring had been responsible for state government relations for MetLife’s U.S. business, including group and individual life insurance, annuities and retirement products, disability income insurance, dental insurance, long-term care insurance and critical illness insurance. He also managed the state government relations for MetLife’s Corporate Benefit Funding operation; and managed a team of professional lobbyists who represented the company in various states. Ring himself once served as the company’s lobbyist in the State of Delaware.

The new sustainability function that will report to Ring includes the MetLife Foundation, currently led by Dennis White; and MetLife’s Reputation Management team, headed by Jon Richter. In turn, Ring will report to Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs Mike Zarcone.
