Michael Cloud was sworn into office on Tuesday evening as the newest representative of Texas’s 27th Congressional District.

Cloud won the special election last month to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX, 27th), who resigned in April amid revelations that he had used $84,000 of taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit from a former staffer.

A leader in Texas Republican politics, Cloud calls himself a “constitutional conservative” and supports President Donald Trump‘s agenda, including building a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

Cloud will serve out the remainder of Farenthold’s term and will face Democrat Eric Holguin, his closest competitor in the special election, again in November’s general election.
