On September 10, 2018, Rep. Ron DeSantis announced that he will be resigning from Congress, effective immediately, to focus on his gubernatorial bid for governor of Florida.

In a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Rep. DeSantis stated “As the Republican nominee for Governor of Florida, it is clear to me that I will likely miss the vast majority of our remaining session days for this Congress. Under these circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to accept a salary. In order to honor my principles and protect the taxpayer, I officially resign from the House of Representatives effective immediately.”

Rep. DeSantis, who was sworn into office in January 2013, originally announced his retirement from the House in January 2018, with Democrat Nancy Soderberg and Republican Michael Waltz in a close race to replace him in the November midterms.
