On September 11, 2018, New Hampshire held its primary election for the 2018 midterm elections.

Chris Pappas

In the 1st Congressional District, Executive Council Member Chris Pappas won in an 11-member Democratic primary which included former Obama Administration Official Maura Sullivan, who raised more money than the other 10 candidates combined, and Levi Sanders, son of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Pappas, if elected, would be the first openly gay lawmaker to serve New Hampshire in a congressional seat left vacant by Democrat Carol Shae-Porter, who announced her retirement last October.

Eddie Edwards

On the Republican side, Eddie Edwards, a U.S. Navy veteran who also served as the state liquor commission’s chief law enforcement officer, beat out State Senator Andy Sanborn. If elected, Edwards would be the first African-American to represent New Hampshire in Congress.

In New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican voters selected State Rep. Steve Negron to take on incumbent Democratic Rep. Ann Kuster in November.
