The United States Coast Guard held a change of command ceremony in Washington, D.C. on the morning of Friday, June 1. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft was relieved by Adm. Karl Schultz.

Zukunft, who is retiring from the armed services, had been the highest-ranking member of the Coast Guard since May 2014.

Schultz is now the 26th commandant in the Coast Guard’s history.

Schultz was most recently in command of the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area and has served in the USCG since 1983.

President Trump, who nominated Schultz to the position in March, was in attendance and delivered remarks.
