On October 5, the director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Jeff Pon, abruptly resigned; he had only been serving in the post since March 2018.

Margaret Weichert

In a press release, President Trump announced that he is designating Margaret Weichert, the deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), to serve as acting director of OPM. Weichert will assume the OPM duties in addition to her current responsibilities at the OMB.

Prior to joining the OMB, Weichert was a principal at Ernst & Young LLP from 2013 to 2017.  Weichert also held executive positions at Market Platform Dynamics, First Data Corporation, Bank of America, and Andersen Consulting in her 25-year professional career.

Weichert has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and an M.B.A from the University of California at Berkeley.
