On October 17, President Donald Trump said in an interview with the Associated Press that he has chosen Pat Cipollone as the new White House counsel. Cipollone will replace Don McGahn, who left the position this week.

Cipollone is currently a name partner at Washington law firm Stein Mitchell Cipollone Beato & Missner LLP. His practice areas include commercial litigation, antitrust/trade regulation, and healthcare fraud. According to his firm’s bio, he also has substantial expertise in defamation counseling and litigation on behalf of corporations, organizations and public figures, including prepublication negotiations and/or litigation with major media organizations.

Previously, Cipollone was a litigation partner for over a decade at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Cipollone earned a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in 1988 and a law dree from the University of Chicago in 1991.

He is likely to start in his new position within the next couple of weeks
