Rudy Giuliani has parted ways with Greenberg Traurig due to his “all-consuming” duties on President Trump‘s legal team lasting “longer than initially anticipated,” the firm said.

Giuliani’s departure comes after his controversial and much-scrutinized statement regarding Trump reimbursing Michael Cohen, his personal lawyer, for the $130,000 in “hush money” used to pay off adult film actress Stormy Daniels, which contradicted Trump’s own version of events.

Giuliani previously took a leave of absence from Greenberg Traurig, where he chaired the firm’s Cybersecurity, Privacy and Crisis Management practice group, on April 19, initially stating that his role in representing Trump amidst Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation would be limited.

Giuliani’s comments placed increased attention on his practice at Greenberg Traurig, appearing to reference his own work with the firm. “That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm funds or whatever funds, it doesn’t matter,” Giuliani said in the interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity. “Like, I take care of things like this for my clients. I don’t burden them with every single thing that comes along.”
