Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP said Partner Marc Barbeau will succeed William Braithwaite as chairman of the firm. Braithwaite completed two terms as Chair and will remain as a Toronto-based mergers and acquisitions practitioner.

Barbeau is a member of Stikeman Elliot’s Partnership Board and Executive Committee. He will also continue to be a partner in the firm’s corporate group in Montréal. Barbeau handles M&A, corporate governance and reorganizations.

Among his representations, Barbeau counseled Microcell Telecommunications in a CCAA $2 billion restructuring and $1.4 billion acquisition by Rogers Wireless; LS Power Equity and Global Infrastructure Partners on a $7.67 billion unsolicited proposal to TransAlta; and on Alcoa’s C$27.5 billion unsolicited bid for Alcan.

The firm also announced new Managing Partners: Curtis Cusinato in Toronto, Warren Katz in Montréal and Chrysten Perry in Calgary.
