Tim Mak joined NPR as a political reporter, covering movement conservatism and the Midterm elections. He previously served as a senior political correspondent for The Daily Beast. Asma Khalid will join NPR as a political reporter, effective February 5, 2018. She will be covering the Midterm elections and demographics issues. Khalid will also co-host the NPR Politics podcast.  She comes from WBUR-FM, where she currently serves as business and technology reporter.

NBC News announced that Hoda Kotb is the network’s permanent replacement for Matt Lauer’s position on “NBC News Today.” Kotb will co-anchor the 7-9 a.m. time slot with Savannah Guthrie and continue anchoring the 10 a.m. hour with Kathie Lee Gifford.

Elizabeth Vargas announced her departure from ABC News “20/20,” effective May 2018.

Fox News Channel announced that its chief Washington correspondent James Rosen left the network.

 

Newspapers

At The New York Times, night editor Lara Jakes was named a deputy editor in Washington, overseeing the coverage of foreign policy. She will also oversee the reporters covering the State Department and the Pentagon. Baseball editor Jay Schreiber retired after 27 years at the paper.

At The Washington Post, Keith McMillan changed his beat from sports to breaking news. The former MLB and NBA editor is now general assignment deputy editor reporting to Josh Freedom du Lac. Tracy Grant was named managing editor for staff development and standards.

David Reilly, previously banking editor for The Wall Street Journal, was promoted to deputy chief for finance, reporting to Finance Coverage Chief, Dennis K. Berman.

 

Periodicals

Former banking and finance editor for TheStreet James Langford joined the Washington Examiner as business editor.

Chris Suellentrop joined POLITICO Magazine as a senior editor covering politics and the Midterm elections. He previously held editorial positions at Slate, The New York Times, Yahoo News and Kotaku.

Anthony Haden-Guest and Nina Griscom joined Avenue as contributing editors.

Haley Byrd was named Congress reporter at the Weekly Standard.

Tal Rosenberg joined Chicago magazine as senior editor.

Ben Walsh, who was previously a finance reporter at HuffPost, joined Barron’s as a banking and fintech reporter.

 

Digital Media

Vice Media’s president Andrew Creighton and chief digital officer Mike Germano were placed on leave after sexual harassment allegations were reported against them.

 

TV Stations

Kody Leibowitz joined KRON-TV’s Sacramento Bureau as a reporter covering state government and state politics.

Robert Truman was named general manager at KATU-TV and KUNP-TV.

Dean Radla was named general manager at WOAI-TV. He will continue to be the general manager of KABB-TV/KMYS-TV.
