The New York Daily News announced that Jim Kirk was named its interim editor-in-chief, effective immediately. Kirk remains in his position as senior vice president of strategic initiatives at Tronc, New York Daily News’ parent company and will vacate his post as interim executive editor of the Los Angeles Times, a position he was assigned to by Tronc just two weeks ago.
Kirk will now oversee the daily operations of the Daily News until a permanent editor-in-chief is selected.
Jim Kirk was publisher and editor-in-chief of the Chicago Sun-Times from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that, Kirk served as chief of editorial operations at Crain’s Chicago Business and a government team leader at Bloomberg News.
The New York Daily News has lost three editors within the past three years: Colin Myler, Jim Rich, and Arthur Browne.
