Texas Monthly announced that effective May 2018 Tim Taliaferro, editor-in-chief of the magazine since 2016, will transition to a new role of chief innovation officer, exploring new digital platforms and products for the publication.

Prior to joining the Texas Monthly, Taliaferro worked for Texas Exes, first as an editor for The Alcalde Magazine and later as vice president for communications and digital strategy.

 

 

Richard A. Oppel, who joined the magazine this year as ombudsman, will succeed Taliaferro on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is named.

Richard Oppel served as reporter and editor for many newspapers and news services, including the Associated Press, Tallahassee Democrat, The Charlotte Observer, Knight Ridder Newspapers and Austin American-Statesman.

Oppel also served as senior vice president at the public relations firm Hill+Knowlton Strategies, Inc. from 2009-2012 and most recently served as senior advisor at Crosswind Media & Public Relations.

 

In addition, Texas Monthly appointed Carlos Sanchez as politics editor and Megan Creydt as digital managing editor.
