Holcombe has served at the department since 2014.

Governor Phil Scott said of her departure “I want to thank Rebecca for her years of service to the State and her work to ensure our kids receive the best possible education right here in Vermont.”

Holcombe wrote in her sign-off to educators that she looked forward to collaborating down the road, but said no word of her future plans.

An interim secretary will be appointed in the next few days while the State Board of Education looks for a new permanent secretary.
