The City of Chicago held their election for Mayor on February 26, 2019.  Out of the field of 14 candidates, no candidate received more than 50% of the vote.

A runoff election between Toni Preckwinkle and Lori Lightfoot is scheduled for April 2 for the position of Mayor.

Preckwinkle is currently president of the board of Commissioners in Cook County, IL and has worked as a school teacher and in the Economic Development Office for the City of Chicago.  Lightfoot has served as senior equity partner in the litigation and conflict resolution group at Mayer Brown LLP.  She has also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the criminal division.  Following the runoff election, Chicago will elect the first black woman as mayor of the city.
