Athenahealth, Inc. has named Jeffrey “Jeff” Immelt, former GE chairman and CEO, as the company’s new chairman of its Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Immelt assumes this position from Jonathan Bush, the company’s chief executive officer and president. Bush will remain in both of these roles until a new president of the company is named, at which point he will continue to serve as CEO.

This move represents one part of athenahealth’s strategic initiative, launched in 2017, to improve company efficiency, and follows the appointment of Marc Levine as chief financial officer earlier this year.
