Prudential Financial Inc. announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Charles Lowrey as the next chief executive officer and chairman-elect of the company starting December 1. Currently, Lowrey serves as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Prudential’s International Division, a role he’s held since 2014.

Prior to his current role, Lowrey served as executive vice president and COO of Prudential’s U.S. Businesses from 2011 to 2014.  Before joining Prudential in 2001, Lowrey was a managing director and the head of the Americas for J.P. Morgan’s Real Estate and Lodging Investment Group.

Lowrey will succeed John Strangfeld, who is retiring on November 30th after a 41-year career at Prudential, including 10 years as chairman and CEO; Strangfeld will remain a non-executive chairman of the company until April 5, 2019.

Additionally, Prudential announced that the current Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Robert Falzon will succeed Mark Grier as the company’s vice chairman on December 1.

Grier will remain with the company as a director on the Company’s Board until August 2019, at which point his position on the Board will be filled by Falzon.

Prudential expects to name a new chief operating officer of international businesses and a new chief financial officer next week.
