Ted Cruz

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has tapped Steve Chartan to be his new chief of staff, following the recent departure of his former chief of staff Prerak Shah. Cruz stated, “Pre has been an exceptional chief of staff and chief counsel. From ensuring that Texas received all the resources it needed to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, to working to secure our southern border, to putting conservative judges on the bench …”

Chartan had been the senator’s deputy chief of staff since December 2017, and was legislative director starting in 2015. He was the executive director of the House Freedom Caucus prior to joining Cruz’s staff. His other experience included stints at the Senate Republican Steering Committee and on Sen. Pat Toomey‘s (R-PA) staff.
