Pictured: Peter O’Rourke

The White House named Peter O’Rourke as acting secretary of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

O’Rourke previously served as the VA chief of staff since February 2018 and served as the executive director of VA’s Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection from May 2017 to February 2018.

Prior to the VA, O’Rourke had a brief stint as a senior policy advisor for former Rep. Tom Latham in 2014 and went on to serve as John T. Frey‘s Clerk of Court campaign manager in 2015 and as a press lead for Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.

O’Rourke succeeds former Acting Secretary Robert Wilkie since President Trump nominated him to be VA Secretary.

In addition, The VA announced that Deputy Secretary Thomas G. Bowman is re-entering retirement effective June 15.
