Paul Mango has been called to take on the role of deputy chief of staff for policy at the U.S. Department for Health and Human Services (HHS).

Prior to this role, Mango was chief of staff and principal deputy administrator at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services since July 2018. Mango will now report to HHS Chief of Staff Brian Harrison, who joined the department in June.

“Having a deputy chief of staff for policy will help our leaders better coordinate their work, support each other, and achieve results together,” said Secretary Alex Azar.

Mango had an unsuccessful campaign run during the 2018 Pennsylvania governor election. He worked for McKinsey & Co. as an associate from 1988 to 1991 before getting promoted to senior partner in 1996, a role he held until 2017. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 1986 and graduated with a BS in Engineering from West Point and a MBA in Business from Harvard.
