Florida Gov. Rick Scott suspended Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes from office, effective immediately. Snipes had previously announced that she would retire from the position on Jan. 4, two years before her current term expires. However, after Scott’s executive order, Snipes rescinded her resignation and announced publicly that she intends to fight the suspension.
This comes after a tumultuous election season where ballot issues and counting errors put Snipes’ office in the spotlight. In an executive order, Governor Scott appointed his former General Counsel, Peter Antonacci, to the position.
