Republicans were dealt a stunning blow in Tuesday’s special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th District where Democrat and former Marine Conor Lamb was dubbed the apparent winner in the traditionally red district.

Currently, Conor Lamb holds a lead of fewer than 700 votes over Republican Rick Saccone, who has yet to concede.
The race, where President Donald Trump won by nearly 20 points in 2016, has not been officially called because state officials continue to count provisional and military ballots, which can last until around March 20th.
While there is no automatic recount, Saccone and the GOP have already begun preparations for a recount once the final vote tally is complete.
Republicans were hoping to use the race as an example of GOP staying in power, dumping money and manpower into a campaign that received the full backing of President Trump.
Lamb’s victory is cause for concern for Republican leaders who are bracing for a Democratic wave in the midterm elections and are without any apparent strategy to fight back.
