Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) will run for Senate this year, challenging incumbent Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL).

The race is expected to be highly contested; it will cost both campaigns millions of dollars and will involve national party leaders on both sides.

President Donald Trump has urged Scott to run against Nelson, and the governor’s friendship with the president will surely make its mark on the campaign trail.

Scott was first elected governor in 2010 after a self-funded campaign; he won reelection in 2014.
