Just a few days after Tronc’s announcement that Jim Kirk would move from being interim editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Times to interim editor-in-chief of The New York Daily News, the Los Angeles Times announced that Jim Kirk is moving back to the Los Angeles Times as editor-in-chief.

Kirk replaces Lewis DVorkin, who was named chief content officer at Tronc, and will report to Timothy P. Knight, Tronc’s president and will continue to serve as senior vice president, strategic initiatives at Tronc.

Kirk was publisher and editor-in-chief of Chicago Sun-Times from 2012 until 2017, the year when Tronc made an unsuccessful attempt to purchase the Chicago Sun-Times.

Kirk’s previous assignments include chief of editorial operations at Crain’s Chicago Business, managing editor of Chicago News Cooperative, government team leader at Bloomberg News, and associate managing editor for business news at Chicago Tribune.

He currently serves on the board of trustees of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum/Chicago Academy of Sciences.
