Lawrence S. Bacow, currently the Hauser leader-in-residence at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Center for Public Leadership, has been appointed the 29th president of Harvard University, effective July 1, 2018.

Bacow will succeed Drew Gilpin Faust, who was the first woman to serve as president of the university beginning in 2007.

Bacow formerly served as the president of Tufts University from 2001 to 2011, and as the chancellor of MIT from 1998 to 2001.

Bacow currently serves on the boards of the Loews Corporation and Henry Schein, Inc.
