The National Association of Water Companies has announced that Robert F. Powelson, currently commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, will be its new chief executive officer.

He replaces former Executive Director Michael Deane who stepped down earlier this year.

Powelson was confirmed as FERC commissioner last year after serving for 9 years as the commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Prior to that, Powelson served for 13 years as president and chief executive officer of the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry.

Powelson will leave the FERC to lead NAWC in mid-August.
